Heavy rains in China’s Guangxi, more than 37.5 lakh affected by floods

Nanning: More than 3.75 million residents have been affected by heavy rains and floods in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local officials said. Guangxi has experienced six heavy rain events this year’s flood season, with an average rainfall of 490.8 mm – 1.6 times that recorded in the same period of previous years, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to a press release on the region’s flood control and relief work, disasters such as torrential rains and floods have brought down 3,436 houses and damaged 159,300 hectares of crops.

Direct economic losses have already exceeded 12.48 billion yuan (about $1.86 billion).

More heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Guangxi, according to an official from the region’s flood control and drought relief headquarters.
