Heavy rain, water-logged roads slow down in Kolkata on Monday morning

New Delhi: Kolkata and its neighboring districts have been receiving torrential rains since Monday morning, making it difficult for commuters on the first day of the working week.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of similar rain for at least one more day. Kolkata recorded over 100 mm of rain at various places in the city from 1 am to 7 am.

According to the report, the Meteorological Department has predicted more heavy rain or thundershowers till Tuesday morning in most districts of South Bengal including Kolkata.

Regional Meteorological Director GK Das said, “Due to the speed of cyclonic circulation from north-west Bay of Bengal to Gangetic West Bengal and strong moisture, over Kolkata and adjoining North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and Purba Medinipur. it’s raining heavily.” As quoted by PTI.

According to the 24-hour data of the Meteorological Department, till 8.30 am on Monday, Kolkata received the highest rainfall of 142 mm in West Bengal.

Other places that recorded heavy rainfall during the 24-hour period are Canning (113 mm), Salt Lake (112.8 mm) in South 24 Parganas and Dum Dum (95 mm) in the northern outskirts of Kolkata, according to the Meteorological Department data. mm) are included. .
