It has been raining heavily in the country’s capital Delhi for three days. The rains that started on Tuesday broke the 19-year record of September on Wednesday. It is raining incessantly on Thursday as well. Due to so much rain, the roads of Delhi have been flooded with water till their knees. The situation is such that water is falling like a waterfall from the flyover. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi.

September’s highest rainfall in 19 years
Delhi had recorded 126.8 mm of rain on 13 September 2002. Delhi received the highest ever rainfall of 172.6 mm on 16 September 1963. Delhi recorded 75.6 mm of rain in just three hours after the rains started at 8.30 am on Wednesday. Delhi recorded 121.1 mm of rain in 24 hours. At least 27 incidents of felling of trees were recorded.

Delhi’s speed slowed down in three days of rain
Due to the rains, many areas including Chanakyapuri, Connaught Place, ITO, Janpath, Ring Road have been flooded due to which traffic jams are being faced in these areas. It started raining from 6.30 am on Thursday.

In view of incessant rains, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department has also issued an advisory on Twitter and said that due to the rains, traffic jams on roads in Delhi and adjoining areas, low-lying areas have been flooded, crops and plants have been damaged and many more. There has also been damage to buildings.

229.8 mm of rain in three days
In the rain that started on Tuesday morning, 229.8 mm of rain has been received so far. This is much more than the average rainfall of 129.8 mm in September. Normally 16.7 mm of rain is recorded in the first two days of the month.

The Meteorological Department says that now there is a possibility of less rain, but there may be heavy rain again from September 7. According to an official, in the next rains, more records of September rains may be broken in Delhi.
