Heatwave Conditions Prevail in Odisha, Jharsuguda Hottest with 43 Degrees Celsius

Industrial town Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the state with the mercury touching 43 degrees Celsius.

Despite a slight drop in the temperature in Odisha, the mercury level on Sunday remained at 40 degree Celsius or above at least 20 places in the state, according to the Meteorological Department’s bulletin.

Jharsuguda, the industrial city of the state, was the hottest place with the mercury touching 43 degrees Celsius, while three places – Boudh, Sambalpur and Talcher – recorded temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, six places recorded a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius or more.

These places are Angul (41.1), Sundergarh (41.5), Bolangir (41.2), Titlgah and Malkangiri (41.5 each) and Rourkela (41).

Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.

The IMD issued a yellow warning and said that there is a possibility of thunder and lightning at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts.

It is also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at one or two places in Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts till 8.30 am on Monday.

Meanwhile, the state government announced that classes will be held from 7 am to 11 am in all Anganwadi centers from Monday due to the heat wave conditions.

All Anganwadi centers have also been directed to make arrangements for adequate supply of drinking water for children and their staff during working hours, the Women and Child Development Department said in a notification.

However, the District Collectors have been empowered to modify the timings of the centers as per the heat wave conditions in their areas.

Due to the scorching heat in the state, government and private schools will also take morning classes from Monday.
