Surat: City police unite 15 year old speech and hearing impaired boy Maharashtra with his father.
The boy had run away from home three days ago after his uncle scolded him for watching TV. He was also provided with a hearing aid.
His father told TOI that this is his third attempt to escape from the house. He could not even speak due to hearing impairment.
Abhijeet Shegokar, a resident of Khamgaon in Buldhana, was spotted by police inspector HV Goti in the traffic police near Kangaroo circle of Puna area on Wednesday morning. He was crying continuously.
“I tried to ask him why he was crying but he could not speak and later I realized that he cannot even hear. Later I took the help of a social worker and found his village,” Gotti told TOI.
Piyush Shah, coordinator of Friends for Women and Children (FFWC), an initiative of CID Crime, took the help of a teacher at a school for special children over a video call. “Once it became clear that he is from Maharashtra we asked him to search his village on mobile phone through internet. He discovered a video of his school in Khamgaon,” said Shah.
The police contacted the local police station in Buldhana and took their help in locating the boy’s father Prashant, who had not filed a missing complaint for Abhijeet.
“He ran away when he was five and then at the age of 12 and this is the third time. Earlier he was found from nearby villages but this time he came so far,” said Prashant. Hearing Aid The device was provided by the Department of Social Defense.
After leaving the house on Tuesday, the boy boarded a private passenger bus and hid under a seat. In the morning the bus cleaner saw him and asked him to get down.
