‘He was in hospital in last two days’: Shoaib Akhtar on Rizwan’s semi-final knock, calls him ‘hero’

Before the semi-final bout, Rizwan was down with the flu and spent two nights in an ICU bed in Dubai. Reportedly, he had developed a serious chest infection and required medical attention. Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to share a picture of the 29-year-old being hospitalised.

“Can you imagine that this man played for his country today and gave his best. He was in the hospital for the last two days. Huge respect @iMRizwanPak. Hero,” Akhtar wrote on Twitter.

Before the match, there were concerns about Rizwan’s availability due to his health condition, and Pakistan’s batting consultant Matthew Hayden later confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batsman was hospitalized for a night due to a ‘lung condition’. Had to be recruited.

“Mohammed Rizwan was in the hospital a night back suffering from some kind of lung condition. This is a warrior. He has been brilliant through the campaign, and has a lot of courage,” Hayden had said.
