Bowler legendary Glenn McGrath posted a heartfelt note for his former teammate Shane Warne, who passed away on Friday. McGrath and Warne played a lot of cricket together and won many matches for Australia with their exemplary bowling. The two shared a great rapport both on and off the field as teammates and close friends.
Warne was found irresponsible on Friday at a luxury resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. McGraw took to Twitter and spoke about Warne’s larger-than-life character.
“Absolutely devastated today. Warney was older than life. I thought nothing could ever happen to him. He’s lived more than 20 people in his life,” McGrath posted on Instagram.
Warne played a total of 145 Tests in a career spanning 15 years, taking 708 wickets, and was also an effective lower-order batsman with the highest Test score of 99.
McGrath further talked about Warne’s never-give-up attitude on the field as the game has never been defeated and has turned the game in Australia’s favor several times.
“He was the ultimate competitor. He thought that he never lost the game, that he could change it and make us win, which he did many times. I think that’s how he lived his life.”
Cricket Australia on Saturday announced that the southern stand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground will be renamed as the SK Warne Stand as a tribute to the legendary spinner.
The former pacer expressed his condolences to the family of the late cricketer whom he loved dearly.
It seemed like there would never be a dull moment. He was a great companion and a loving father. He loved his kids dearly and my thoughts are with Brooke, Jackson and Summer. My thoughts are with Keith, Bridget and Jason as well. Rest in peace my good friend, there will never be anyone like you again
