‘He plays some incredible shots through the off-side’: Darren Gough calls himself a huge Shikhar Dhawan-fan

The dynamic duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have made a comeback in India’s ODI set-up and have already set a phenomenal record during the first match of the series against England on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 111 in London, the pair set up a 100-run first stand for India to hand the Men in Blue a 10-wicket win over the Men in Blue. While Rohit scored an unbeaten 76, Dhawan remained unbeaten on 31.

Former England bowler Darren Gough praised the Indian openers for the way they played against the England attack at the Kennington Oval. Talking to cricket.com, Gough said that he enjoys watching Dhawan bat, highlighting the left-hander’s ability to play remarkable strokes towards the off-side.

“I am a big fan of Shikhar Dhawan. He has a lot of style. He plays some incredible shots through the offside. We saw him yesterday, he played another feud for Rohit Sharma,” said Gough.

The former pacer lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for showing positive intent while chasing down the target of 111 runs. Gough said the Indian batsmen chased down the target with ease despite the challenging conditions.

“Sharma came on fire and hit some incredible shots against some good bowlers. Players like Reece Topley and David Willey have been around for a long time. But he made it so easy and that too on a difficult pitch.”

Jasprit Bumrah records his career best ODI figures – 6 for 19 India Jos Buttler’s bowled out England for 110 runs in 26 overs. Indian fast bowler became the first Indian fast bowler to take 6 wickets on England soil.

In reply, the Dhawan-Rohit duo took India home in 18.4 overs, taking the 3-match series 1-0. Both the teams will take on each other in the second ODI at Lord’s on Thursday.

Meanwhile, questions have also been raised over the availability of Virat Kohli Who missed the first ODI due to a back injury. Several media reports have claimed that he may not recover for the Lord’s ODI, but the BCCI is yet to comment on the former India captain’s health. Apart from Kohli, young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh also suffered an abdominal strain, which kept him away from the selection of the ODI series opener.
