Ravi Shastri criticizes Umran Malik for not changing the length after getting hammered.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri and veteran England batsman Kevin Pietersen criticized Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik’s bowling against Mitchell Marsh and Phil Salt during the Delhi Capitals clash on Saturday. It was a forgettable match for Umran as he bowled just one over and conceded 22 runs from it. The fast bowler has been going through a rough patch this season and the skipper is also not showing much faith in him as he has not completed his quota of overs on several occasions this season.

Umran was introduced into the attack in the 7th over of the match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. He started with a short ball and Salt hit him for a boundary. A single came off the second ball. While Mitchell Marsh hit a six on the third ball and threw it over long leg. The fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir continued to bowl at his pace and hit a six off the fourth ball as well. Marsh took a single off the fifth ball but Salt ended it with another four. 22 runs came from the over which put pressure on Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Former India head coach Shastri criticized Umran for not changing the length after hitting the hammer.

“He just played into the opposition’s hands. He needs someone like Bhuvneshwar Kumar next to him to tell him exactly what needs to be done. You can still score runs but you need to vary the length. You bowl four balls there, all the same length, wrong line and he’s already got 17. He might as well try the cross seam. In a situation like this when you don’t have the confidence and you don’t know that Where’s going, cross seam and full and go into the stumps,” Shastri said during commentary.

Meanwhile, Pietersen was also critical of Umran’s approach and suggested that he should have slowed down after Marsh went after him.

He said, ‘I am not a bowler but sitting in the dressing room our bowlers Broad and Anderson have all seen what the opposition team does. He was always thinking and talking about what the opposition was doing. That’s learning gear. He should have understood what Mitch Marsh did with great success. What Umran Malik is doing here is not good. reduce the speed! The opposition did what succeeded,” said the former England captain.
