‘He had more faith in my abilities’: Shastri names the person who ‘urged’ him to join as team director in 2014

Ravi Shastri and his strategy led the new era of Indian cricket in the last 3-4 years. Ever since he took over as India’s head coach, the team is looking sharper and more confident than ever. His coaching technique was such that it was mostly concerned with asking a player to change his style of play in order to boost his morale. And the results were in front of everyone.

The team reached new heights and rewritten history on several occasions. India may have missed out on an ICC title win during his tenure, but Shastri has left behind a legacy that will be remembered for ages.

India’s game against Namibia on Monday in the T20 World Cup 2021 was Shastri’s last assignment as head coach, he spoke about various aspects of his tenure. He said former BCCI president N Srinivasan had ‘more confidence’ in his coaching abilities.

“I think it’s been a hell of a journey for me personally. I know it’s my last day in the dressing room, I just talked to the boys, but I want to thank BCCI, I got this To give the opportunity, believing that I can do the job and I want the coach to come after my luck,” Shastri said at the press conference.

“I must also thank all the committees that were involved in choosing me as the coach, including Vinod Rai and his team, the CoA, I would like to thank all of them as they were all part of the journey, “They said.

But the highest honor was reserved for Srinivasan, one of the most powerful BCCI presidents in the history of Indian cricket.

“…But one person I would like to make a special mention of– his name is N Srinivasan. He was the one who insisted that I do this job in 2014. In fact, I didn’t believe (that) I could do this. I can do the work, he had more faith in my ability than me.

Shastri thanked the former board supremo, saying, “And I hope, I haven’t let him down, so if sir (Srinivasan), you are listening, I got a chance and I did my job without any agenda. “

Shastri was appointed team director by former BCCI President Srinivasan in 2014 after India lost 1-3 in England.
