Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) chief HD Kumaraswamy has blamed some ‘shakunis’ for the family tussle over the assembly ticket for his sister-in-law Bhavani Revanna from Hassan town, the fiefdom of Goudas.
HDK, who is known for his one liners and cryptic comments, apparently did not elaborate further. His statement has worsened the situation for the party as the family members are now busy pointing fingers at each other. Some close family members are also feeling uncomfortable with HDK’s remarks.

HDK has added fuel to the fire by saying that Bhavani will not win over Hassan and some vested interests are poisoning the family.
Apart from HD Revanna, who is a five-time MLA from Holenarasipura, both his sons – Prajwal and Suraj – are MPs and MLCs. If the former district panchayat members enter the Bhawani assembly, all four of the family will be MLAs.
HDK’s wife Anita has left her Ramanagara seat for her only son and film actor Nikhil Kumaraswamy, indicating that she is moving out of the electoral fray. Using this as a template for the family, HDK is arguing against giving the ticket to Bhavani, whom he personally dislikes.
Ignoring his brother, the HDK has already declared the name of a local party leader Swarup for the same seat, saying that the HDK will decide it.
Meanwhile, Revanna is confident of using his father to get a ticket for his wife. Among his four sons, Revanna is considered HDD’s favorite child.
Expressing anger over the ‘Shakuni’ comment, Revanna said, ‘Why is Kumaraswamy taking my wife’s name again and again? I can also say that I will take a decision on Hasan related issues after discussing with my father. As far as JDS is concerned, father’s decision is final.
According to insiders, HDD has already promised ticket to Bhavani and her name will be announced on the last day. The senior Gowda, who is aware of the complications this would entail, is trying to win over HDK. Some believe that HDK may agree to this if the father clears his wife Anita for the Tumkur Rural assembly seat.
But HDK, expressing his full faith in the intelligence and impartiality of father HDD, has dismissed all these news as mere rumours. The Gowda family already has seven MLAs, including two MPs – HDD and Prajwal.
Bhavani has always been a highly ambitious, controversial figure in the Revanna family, which is firmly controlling the JDS in Hassan district. HDK has long been disgusted by his one-sided and domineering attitude. Using the strategy of “family-before-party”, he is trying to prevent her from entering the hallowed corridors of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
If Bhavani manages the ticket, it will be a huge loss for HDK, and he will not take it easily. If she is denied the ticket, she cannot remain silent and may even contest as an independent against the official candidate of the JDS that has divided the family.
