Hasura raises $100 million, turns unicorn – Times of India

BENGALURU: Bengaluru and US-based open-source engine Hasura has raised $100 million in a funding round led by Greenoaks that values ​​the company at $1 billion. Existing investors Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures have also participated in the round.
The Series C round brings the total capital raised by Hasura to $136.5 million. Hasura plans to use the funding to accelerate R&D and expand go-to-market activities globally for the company’s GraphQL Engine, which makes it fast and easy for even those with zero GraphQL expertise to compose API from existing APIs and databases. GraphQL is designed to make APIs fast, flexible, and developer-friendly. Hasura is designed to make web application development faster than ever before by eliminating bottlenecks to data access for frontend and full stack developers.
The names Hasura comes from Asura, the Sanskrit word for demon and Haskell the language used to build it.
Hasura has been downloaded more than 400 million times. “This funding enables Hasura to greatly increase our innovation velocity, which in turn allows our rapidly-expanding user base to deliver software even faster,” said Hasura CEO Tanmai Gopal.
