Hasmukh Adhia appointed Chairman, GIFT City

Ahmedabad, June 20 Senior retired bureaucrat and former Union Finance Secretary and Revenue Secretary, Hasmukh Adhia has been appointed as the Chairman of GIFT City Limited, responsible for developing Gujarat International Finance-Tech City, India’s first smart city in Gandhinagar. . As the chairman of GIFT City, Adhia will replace Sudhir Mankad, former chief secretary of Gujarat.

Apart from GIFT City, Adhia has been appointed as the director and chairman of the board of state public sector undertakings Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) with immediate effect. The appointments are in the form of non-executive chairman.

Adhia, a 1981 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, is currently serving as an advisor to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He was part of the panel appointed by the Gujarat government to recommend measures for the post-Covid economic revival of the state. The panel had recommended disinvestment of state PSUs except in strategic sectors.

Adhia is currently a non-executive chairman of Bank of Baroda, and is also the Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat. He serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He also serves as the Vice-Chairman of Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) and Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar.
