Haryana Weather: Amidst allegations and counter-allegations over rise in water level of Yamuna in Delhi due to release of water from Hathinikund barrage, Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal today (July 13) said that not releasing excess water from the barrage could cause huge loss.

“When there is flood or heavy rain and if we do not release the excess water from the barrage, it can cause major damage.

If we stop the water, the situation will be disastrous,” the minister said.

Pal said that the Hathinikund barrage does not have a system to store a large amount of water like a reservoir, if more water is stored in the barrage than the permissible limit, then there can be a big loss.

His remarks came a day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a letter to the Union Home Minister, requested that “if possible, release water from Hathnikund barrage in Haryana in a limited manner” and pointed out that Delhi will host the G20. ready to do. Summit in a few weeks.

The Yamuna in Delhi rose to 208.66 meters on Thursday evening, submerging nearby roads and public and private infrastructure, and causing hardships to people living close to the river.
