All-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur has been named India ODI captain of the women’s team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Veteran Mithali Raj on Wednesday announced her retirement from international cricket as the BCCI announced the Indian squad for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka on the same day, where Harmanpreet was promoted as captain in the 50-over format.
The flamboyant all-rounder, who was already India’s captain in the T20 format, now has a major role in India’s white-ball set-up as young opener Smriti Mandhana’s deputy.

“The All India Women’s Selection Committee met on Wednesday to select the squad for India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. India will play three T20 matches from June 23 and the same number of ODIs in Dambulla and Kandy respectively.

Meanwhile, Mithali on Wednesday announced her retirement from all forms of the game as she confirmed the development through a social media post.

Mithali retired as the highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs. After making his debut against Ireland in Milton Keynes on 26 June 1999, he represented India in 232 One Day Internationals, scoring 7805 runs at an average of 50.68. He played 12 Tests and 89 T20Is for the country and scored 699 and 2364 runs respectively.
