Harish Rawat’s statement on defeat in Uttarakhand elections, Congress questioned his seat allocation

After the Congress’s dismal performance in five states, including Uttarakhand, differences are wide open in the state Congress, with poster boy Harish Rawat’s latest Facebook post blaming the party’s screening committee for contesting from Lalkaun seat, which He had lost.

Rawat said that the screening committee had asked him to contest the 2022 Uttarakhand elections when he was not ready. He further said that as the head of the Congress Campaign Committee, he wanted to focus on the campaign but the party insisted that he should contest the elections.

“The party (Congress) decided to field me from Ramnagar and shifted a local candidate to another seat, Salt. When I had prepared my mind, I was asked to shift to Lalkuan,” Rawat wrote in a Facebook post.

His reaction comes after senior Congress leader Pritam Singh, who retained the Chakrata assembly seat in the 2022 assembly elections, taunted Rawat that it was not “appropriate” that he decided to contest from the seat where he Wasn’t active in the last five years. Singh commented on Rawat, “Suddenly you decide to jump in. Do you want to take advantage of someone else’s hard work?”

A large section in the Congress believes that despite getting 38 per cent vote share in the election, the party could not win most of the seats due to mismanagement, wrong distribution of tickets and lack of killer instincts.

The Congress lost four seats by a margin of 500 to 1,800 votes, but won three seats with a margin of 119 to 1,200 votes. In Lalkuan, Rawat lost to BJP candidate Mohan Bisht, who contested the assembly elections for the first time, by a margin of 17,527 votes.

What is the reason for the defeat of Congress?

According to experts, one issue that affected the Congress in a big way was Rawat’s alleged promise to open a Muslim university in the state. His long bearded memes and morphed pictures went viral on social media.

However, during the election campaign, Rawat repeatedly clarified that he had not made any such promise but it failed to help the Congress. However, Rawat wrote about Muslim University for the first time in his social media post.

“It needs to be investigated as to who was behind the little-known leader who was the first to make a statement on Muslim University. Who helped that leader become secretary and later general secretary in Congress,” Rawat wrote.

It is learned that Aqeel Ahmed, a local leader from Dehradun district had talked about Muslim University.
