Hari Biryani at City of Joy! TMC’s thumping victory in KMC elections brought the taste of mutton in a new color

From apparel to food packets – Kolkata was covered in green as it won a record number of seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections. However, it was the “Hari Biryani” that grabbed everyone’s attention.

Green (TMC) flags were seen at most places along with green caps and shirts after the party won 134 out of 144 wards in Kolkata. The party shared the joy of its victory by distributing sumptuous “Hari Biryani” in the city of Joy.

The owners of Priya restaurant located at Hatibagan Junction in Shyambazar were busy serving Hari Biryani on Tuesday. As soon as one tray ran out, more orders came.

The owner of the restaurant, Tapan Ghoshal (‘Bhabani Da’) is a long-time TMC party worker. In his words, “I understand human emotion.”

Ghoshal said that the hari biryani was made using organic colours, pulao rice, mutton, onion paste, raw chilli paste and coriander paste.

The love of Bengalis for food, especially biryani, is not news. Hence, the KMC elections acted as a ‘vote festival’ which was won by the TMC by a huge margin. The results became clear after the first round of counting began on Tuesday morning.

As the day progressed, TMC supporters realized that today is their happy day. Ghoshal said, “I knew today that a lot of supporters would come to buy biryani. I thought, what if the color is green?” However, this green colored biryani is not made with any harmful ingredients. It is made from organic color.”

While the cost of green mutton biryani was Rs 200 and chicken was priced at Rs 180 per plate.
