Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the two-day G20 International Food Festival at Talkatora Stadium on Saturday.

The theme of the festival being organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is “Taste of the World”. Four G20 countries – China, Turkey, Japan and Mexico – are participating in the festivities.

Talking to reporters, the minister said that this is not only the G20 Food Festival of NDMC, but also the food festival of the country.

“Extremely happy to inaugurate the #G20 Food Festival at Talkatora Stadium today. It’s great to see how the world is incorporating the nutrition provided by millets into everyday foods. Ready-to-eat millets Dishes and snacks were also offered at the event,” Puri tweeted.

In another tweet, the housing and urban affairs minister said, “Gourmets of the world unite! When one sees Litti Chokha, Pav Bhaji, Daulat Ki Chaat, Jalebi, Paneer Tikka and Japanese Sushi side by side, We realize the soft power that cuisine plays in the cultural and culinary integration of the world!” During the two-day event, visitors will visit 14 Indian states and union territories – Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Bihar, Punjab, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Manipur and Meghalaya.

Over 11 renowned hotels including Taj Palace, Taj Mahal, The Connaught, Taj Ambassador, Le Meridien, ITC Maurya and The Park will be presenting their signature food at the event.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also set up eight stalls in the food festival on the theme of ‘International Year of Millets’.

Delhi Prisons Department is also participating in the festival along with Tihar Baking School.

“NDMC is providing necessary space/stalls and other onsite logistics support to all the participants. It is also providing onsite electricity/water connections and dustbins as per requirement,” the civic body said in a statement on Friday.

The food festival, under India’s presidency of the G20 summit, will create awareness about international cuisine and provide education and guidance on nutritional health and food preparation, the NDMC said.
