Wasim Akram – A name that needs no introduction and a career that defined the future course of fast bowling not only in Pakistan but across the globe. Akram earned the title of Sultan of Swing thanks to his unmistakable ability to swing the ball from both sides.
Interestingly, Akram never played domestic cricket and still fast-tracked to an international debut in 1984. The Lahore-born fast bowler made his international debut with an ODI against New Zealand in Faisalabad on November 23, 1984. Two months later, Akram also got the Test cap.
In his second Test appearance, Akram claimed 10 wickets and declared his arrival on the world stage. Akram was one of the leading campaigners for Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup and dominated the pace bowling scene at the international level for over a decade thereafter.
