Happy Birthday, Sunil Grover: Lesser Known Facts About ‘Gutthi’

Sunil Grover is known as one of the most talented comedians of the country, popularly known for his characters Naam Gutthi and Dr Mashoor Gulati on Comedy Night with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. However, fame and success has not been easy for the comedian. He has been in and around showbiz for over two decades now, but his moment of fame came with his portrayal of Gutthi. The audience loved his comic timing and he soon became a household name.

Even after separating from Kapil Sharma, his fans miss him in the show. Born on 3 August 1977 in Sirsa, Haryana, Sunil had acting ambitions since childhood and used to imitate his teachers to his classmates. As time passed, his interest in acting grew and he decided to make it a career.

As the actor celebrates his 44th birthday today, we bring you some unknown facts about his life and journey:

1. Before making his foray into theater and TV shows, Sunil completed his Masters in Theater from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

2. During his early years, Sunil worked with the legendary comedian late Jaspal Bhatti and was featured in many of his shows.

3. Sunil also worked as a radio jockey and hosted the popular program Hansi Ke Fuwaare on Radio Mirchi for many years. He played the character of Sudarshan aka Sood in the programme.

4. After working in theater for a few years, Sunil made his television debut as Chal Lallan Hero.

5. We all have loved Sunil playing the character of Gutthi in Comedy Nights With Kapil, but did you know that the character was inspired by a real-life character? Sunil had revealed that Gutthi’s character was inspired by a classmate from his college.

6. Long before Sunil gained popularity on television, he played a small role in Ajay Devgn and Kajol starrer Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha.
