Veteran Indian captain Sourav Ganguly turned 50 on Friday, July 8. Dada, as Ganguly is popularly known, is currently the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He took charge at the helm in 2019 and did a great job for the betterment of Indian cricket.

Prior to this, he served India for 15 years after making his debut against West Indies in Brisbane in January 1992. Ganguly’s career began in 1996 when he scored a scintillating century against England at the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground. From there he never looked back.

In 2021, he led India to a stunning 2–1 victory in the home Test series against Australia under Steve Waugh, who were almost invincible at the time. Thereafter, he captained India in the final of the 2003 World Cup, where the Men in Blue lost to the Aussies at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Ganguly was dropped from the Indian team for some reason but he made a comeback. In November 2008, the Bengal-born Ganguly last donned the national color in a Test match against the Australian team in Nagpur.

In 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, the Kolkata prince scored 7212 and 11363 runs with the help of 38 centuries and 107 half-centuries. Ganguly was not even happy with the ball. He took 132 wickets for India at the highest level, including one four-wicket haul and two five-wicket hauls.

Ganguly also traded his way in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he represented the now defunct Pune Warriors. India scaled many heights under his leadership.
