Hanuman Jayanti Violence Live Updates: Injured constable remembers firing in Jahangirpuri; Delhi Police holds meeting with peace committees

‘Shobha Yatra’ in the area on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday. He said that when the procession reached C-Block, some people standing near the mosque got into an argument with the people involved in the procession over the alleged sloganeering.

“The argument soon turned violent and there was stone pelting from both the sides. We tried to control the situation. Both the factions were separated to ensure peace and they were protected by the police,” the injured officer told PTI. Those parts of the procession were diverted towards G-Block, while those standing near the mosque were asked to stay in C-Block. But the people standing on the C-block started pelting stones and came out with sticks in their hands.

“One of them also targeted the police personnel and opened fire from our side. One bullet hit me, but I was conscious and told myself there was no need to worry and I would be safe. Later, I was admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital,” said Medhalal.

The police officer also said that he faced many challenges in his 29-year police career, but never got shot till now. When asked how he informed his family, the sub-inspector said that his family members initially thought he was joking, but realized when he saw Vikas on television.

“I called from the hospital to inform my family about my injuries, but they did not trust me initially. It was only after watching the news channels that he realized the gravity of the situation. He immediately made a video call and inquired about my health.” Medha Lal is currently healthy at home.

Eight policemen and a local were injured in the Jahangirpuri clash.
