Hansal Mehta Performed 1st Wife’s Last Rites as Husband Despite Divorce: ‘When She Was Alive…’ – News18

Hansal Mehta opened up about his first wife, Sunita, and revealed that she has passed away and that he performed the rituals like a husband at her funeral. Hansal married Sunita in his 20s and welcomed their son, Jai. The couple eventually divorced and Hansal fell in love with actor Yusuf Hussain’s daughter Safeena. The couple dated for over 17 years and welcomed two daughters, Kimaya and Rehana. The couple tied the knot in 2022.

In a recent interview, Hansal revealed that his relationship with his first wife had not strained despite their divorce. He added that not only was he still on talking terms with Sunita but his second wife, Safeena, also shared a good bond with her. He revealed that Jai, who recently made his acting debut in Lootere, also shares a close bond with Safeena and even addresses her as his mother.

“My parents not only looked after me and my children, they looked after Sunita too. Sunita’s relationship with me never ended on a bitter note. We did get separated but I did her last rites as her husband,” Hansal Mehta said, speaking with Siddharth Kanan.

“When she was alive, we used to talk. She had health issues, when she would be worried about things, she would talk to me. We never turned our relationship into enmity. Sunita and Safeena used to talk to each other a lot too. We were once at Sanjay Gupta’s house in Pune for Diwali, for that Sunita helped Safeena drape her saree. Safeena never considered Jai and Pallava any less than her children. Jai calls Safeena his mother,” he added.

Last year, Hansal revealed he embraced fatherhood when he was only 22. During his interview on Unfiltered by Samdish’s YouTube channel, he also revealed that he struggled when his films did not work and turned to alcohol for support. It was after Safeena came into his life that he found a way out of his habit and gained stability in life.
