New Delhi: According to market intelligence firm UnearthinSight, the right policies and strategic changes can increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities in India, of whom nearly half have employment potential. According to a report released by Unearthinsight, there are around 30 million people with disabilities in India (Public Works Department) whose population is about 1.3 crore employable, but only 34 lakh of them are employed in the organized, unorganized sector, government-led schemes and self-employed.
“The country has a potential worker bandwidth of 3.4 lakh non-technical graduates, polytechnics and diploma holders who can be brought into the skilled and mainstream service sector and knowledge industry to increase per capita income,” the report said.
About 17,000 PwD students graduate in engineering or computer science and aligned streams, of which about 8,000 PwD employees are employed in the IT services sector, while about 5,500 more in software products and alternative technical talent.
The report said, “Technology and retail are leading the way in creating skills and employment opportunities for the PWD talent pool. Organized retail employs over 13,000 PWD professionals while the technology sector employs over 8,000 PWD professionals. is employed by.”
In the technology sector, TCS and Accenture are the major employers of PWD talent in India’s IT services sector, while sap and Microsoft Lead the high skilled technical PWD talent in the software product industries in India.
The banking and financial services sector is an emerging employer for PWD talent, with SBI being the largest employer of PWD in back-office and front-office jobs.
