HAL inks contract worth Rs 2400 cr with BEL placing largest order

New Delhi: In a major boost to indigenisation, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd on Thursday signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Ltd for development and supply of 20 variants of systems for the LCA Tejas Mk1A programme.

The 5-year contract from 2028-2023 is pegged at Rs 2,400 CR and includes the supply of critical avionics line replaceable units, flight control computers and night flight LRUs. This is the largest order HAL has placed on any Indian company enhancing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign.

“The LCA Tejas program is an excellent example of synergy between India’s defense establishments such as HAL, DRDO and BEL. Development and LRUs for Tejas Mk1A are a make for the present for the supply of 20 types of critical avionics. There is a hand in the shot for India’s movement,” HAL CMD R Madhavan was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, BEL CMD Anandi Ramalingam said, “We are delighted to accept this order from HAL for the prestigious LCA Tejas program and look forward to continuing the strong partnership and joint success with HAL”.

Orders for the supply of these systems to the 83 Tejas Mk1A fighter fleet will be executed by BEL’s two divisions at Bengaluru and Panchkula (Haryana) and deliveries will begin from 2023-24. All contracted items will be delivered by BEL to HAL in a ready-to-board condition, the statement said.

The domestic fighter aircraft is to be equipped with indigenous flight control computers, air data computers which will also be supplied by BEL under this contract. These systems have been designed and developed by various laboratories of DRDO and Aeronautical Development Agency, Bengaluru.

The contract documents were handed over by General Manager LCA Tejas Division, HAL, EP Jayadeva General Manager (EW&A) BEL, Manoj Jain.

“This is the largest order that HAL has placed on any Indian company to enhance the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign,” it said, according to PTI.
