Hair care: Simple steps to fight hair fall – Times of India

The problem of hair fall is becoming very common these days. The reason for this may be increasing stress and pollution. Some of the causes of hair loss are stress, nutritional deficiencies, dandruff, oily scalp, illness, thyroid or hormonal imbalance, use of chemical lotions and application of heat. In “male pattern baldness”, the causes can be hereditary and hormonal factors.

We think that hair fall and hair breakage are same, but it is not so. Hair breakage occurs when the hair shaft breaks. This can be caused by chemical lotions, heat applications, use of rubber bands, dryness and split ends. On the other hand, hair fall occurs when the hair falls out from the root. Obviously, hair loss should be of greater concern, although the normal process is 50 to 100 hairs per day. If the rate of replacement slows down, we face the problem of thinning hair.

If you are experiencing hair loss, try to find out which reasons may apply to you. Beauty guru Shahnaz Hussain shares some easy tips to fight weight loss.

Wash your hair according to the hair type and season. In hot and humid weather, hair should be washed more frequently to remove sweat, dirt and oil deposits. Oily hair can be washed three or four times a week. Wash twice a week for dry hair. In modern times, the importance of cleaning hair has become to remove chemical air pollutants.

It is important to choose the right products. Harsh products disturb the normal acid-base balance. They further stimulate the scalp, leading to a build-up of dead cells on the scalp and dandruff. If your job involves traveling long distances, wash your hair more often, even daily, using less shampoo. If there is excessive oiliness, a hair rinse should also be used. Use a wide tooth comb.

If your hair is oily, use a hair rinse or serum and avoid creamy conditioners. Choose products with ingredients like Amla, Shikakai, Reetha, Brahmi, Bhringraj, Arnica, Triphala, Hibiscus, Bael, Neem, Sandalwood etc. These have healing properties and provide an element of protection. We have found that a non-oily herbal hair tonic containing Triphala and Brahmi helps in controlling hair fall. In fact, Brahmi helps with stress related hair loss.

Clinical treatments are also available. These help in stimulating the hair follicles. Blood circulation in the scalp also improves. During clinical treatment, a hair tonic is also applied and a steamer is used for greater absorption. A nutritious diet helps in healthy hair growth, as the hair is actually nourished by nutrients in the bloodstream. Take a small bowl of sprouts daily. Sprouts contain amino acids, which promote hair growth. If the scalp is oily or has dandruff, drink plenty of water. Mix the juice of one lemon in a glass of water and consume it first thing in the morning. Ask your doctor to take vitamin and mineral supplements. Biotin, a B-vitamin promotes hair growth. Learn yoga, deep breathing and relaxation techniques. They help in reducing stress and thus control hair fall.
