A Guwahati court on Friday sent model Rajkanya Barua, an accused in a road accident case, to judicial custody while police questioned the neurosurgeon and the superintendent of a private hospital for allegedly helping him evade a police probe.
Rajkanya walked out of the police questioning on Wednesday citing that certificate.
On Thursday, the police arrested him from the hospital’s ICU on the basis of a government medical panel of six doctors, who found him fit to appear before the investigating authorities.
Police had registered a fresh case against the 29-year-old model, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and thrashed eight roadside workers, one of whom was seriously injured.
Before entering the inquiry room Dispur police stationNavneel Barua denied the allegation that he was protecting Rajkanya by issuing false certificates. He also said that he does not even know the accused. “I didn’t help him. Whatever I did, I followed medical ethics,” said the neurosurgeon.
Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Saturday that Dr Navneel Barua had called up the model on October 4 before her arrest.
