Gusty Winds, Light Rain Bring Down Temp In State | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: High-speed winds gusting up to 40 kmph and light rain showers hit the city in a sudden turn of the weather on Sunday morning. The weather change was induced by a cyclonic circulation resulting from the western disturbance which coincided with a rise in the local temperature.
Several parts of the state also received light thundershowers throughout Sunday. Putki near Dhanbad recorded 6.2mm of rainfall followed by Satgawan in Koderma with 5mm. Ranchi received trace amounts of rainfall and witnessed a windy condition since early morning. “The wind speed was between 25 kmph and 30 kmph gusting up to 40 kmph,” the scientist at the IMDRanchi, Abhishek Anand said.
The trough under influence of the western disturbance was noticed in the middle and upper tropospheric level along its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level. Most of the weather stations in the state also recorded warmer night temperatures. The night temperature in the Bokaro Thermal area was 4.5 notches above normal at 16.1°C while that of Ranchi was 2.2 notches above normal to record 16.4°C.
Due to the windy condition and light rain, the day temperature in Ranchi and Jamshedpur remained almost normal at 28.6°C and 31.2°C. It was warmer than normal by 1.6 notches at Daltonganj which recorded 32.4°C.
Anand said the cloud cover and light rain would disappear in the next 24 hours and the weather in most parts would be warm and sunny. “Since the temperature is gradually increasing, we can expect fresh bouts of pre-monsoon showers from March first week as even the slightest of western disturbance would be aggravated by local conditions,” he said.
Though there is no specific warning for any part of the state, the IMD has predicted isolated rainfall in some parts of the state during the next 24 hours.
