“Just a few minutes on site and we saw a grey-headed lapwing. These birds, which are more common in China, fly to the north-eastern part of India during the winter. We were downright lucky to see one today. As the team took the single-track road, which winds around the fields and goes further down, we saw water coots, greyleg geese, shelducks, shovels, spot-billed ducks, little grebes, avocets, black-winged stilts. was filled with Black-tailed Godwits, among others. According to the DBS team, Budhera was probably a pit for the gray plover. “Grey plovers are known to land in freshwater wetlands, although they cannot go near them for long and have to find their way into the mud of coastal areas,” said Kumar, who lives in Budhera, an unprotected land.
