A fake policeman extorted Rs 1.40 lakh from a man and a woman after threatening to implicate them for having sex in a public place, a police official said on Friday.

The victim works in this company. He was sitting in a car near Kingdom of Heaven around 8.15 pm on Wednesday when a man dressed in police uniform forced him to accept a bribe of Rs 1.40 lakh.

According to the complaint lodged by Sector-9 resident Shubham Taneja, the fake police approached him and asked him to roll down the window.

Taneja alleged that the man took away their mobile phones and identity cards and threatened to take them to the police station.

Then he told them to pay a bribe of Rs 2 lakh if ​​they wanted to go.

“Both of us withdrew Rs 1 lakh from our ATM cards, while keeping Rs 40,000 in the car. After taking Rs 1.40 lakh, he returned our phones and identity cards and fled.”

Taneja said, we went to our homes and lodged a complaint on Thursday.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the “fake cop” under IPC section 384 (extortion) at Sector 29 police station late on Thursday evening.

Investigating officer Sub Inspector Sajjan Singh said, “We are trying to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage of the area.”
