Gurugram: A 21-year-old woman working with an e-commerce major lost both her eyesight and suffered serious injuries on her face and other body parts after her maternal uncle Follow threw acid at him for several days Fazilpur Chowk In Farrukhnagar area on Thursday.
At the time of the incident, the woman was talking to her mother on the phone outside the paying guest facility. The accused Ravinder Singh, 25, was caught by the neighbors and handed over to the police.
during the initial InvestigationRavinder, who is originally from Hisar and works in a private firm in Farrukhnagar, told the police that he had married the woman two years ago in a secret ceremony, which he denied. In her statement to the police, she said that Ravinder was forcing her to get married even though he already had a wife. She alleged, “I told him several times not to follow me and I was not interested, but he kept on following me.”
In his account given to the police, however, Ravinder said that after differences, the two started living separately for the past four months. They claimed that the woman had moved out of her house, rented a room in the PG accommodation and got a job in a godown of an e-commerce company.
Ravinder told the police that he made several attempts over the past one month to contact the woman but he refused to meet or talk to her.
He said that he suspected that she was having an affair with another man and for the past one week he was following her and keeping a close watch on her movements and activities.
On Thursday, Ravinder was again following the woman. He saw her alone when she came out of his PG facility on her mobile phone, came close to her, grabbed her hair and threw acid on her face. The woman screamed and shouted for help. Neighbors caught Ravinder as he was trying to escape. The woman’s friends took her to a nearby private hospital, from where she was referred to SGT Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
A neighbor who helped nab the accused said that he was standing outside his house when he heard the woman crying. “I saw a man trying to run away with a bottle in his hand. We caught him and called the police.”
SHO of Farrukhnagar police station Devendra Singh said that a case has been registered against Ravinder under section 326A of IPC.acid attack,
“The woman has suffered serious injuries to her eyes, face, neck, arms and abdomen,” he said.
A doctor at SGT Hospital said that the woman’s eyes were the most damaged due to the acid attack. The doctor said, ‘Ophthalmologist is treating him and has advised to take medicine and rest.
