A 19-year-old youth was detained on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl and impregnating her.
Police said that the girl allegedly consumed abortion pills a few days ago after she realized that she was six months pregnant. On Tuesday evening, the girl delivered a premature baby that did not survive due to multiple complications.
Athwalines police have detained Taha Kalaiwala and booked him for rape and under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
About 10 months ago she had met Kalaiwala through a friend and their relationship developed. He lured the girl with a marriage promise and allegedly raped her multiple times. A few days ago, she learned about her pregnancy and consumed abortion pills. On Tuesday, she was in pain in the abdomen.
She was taken to the hospital where they found she was six months pregnant. Her condition became critical and she gave birth to a premature child that died of complications.
