Gujarat Titans players were seen wearing lavender jerseys for their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but they are not the first IPL team to do so.

Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) were seen wearing a lavender jersey for their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Indian Premier League (IPL) match number 62 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.

GT players are donning lavender colored jerseys to raise awareness about the serious issue of cancer.

Hardik also talked about the home team wearing lavender jerseys for the match at the toss and was seen pinning SRH skipper Aiden Markram before the toss.

After Markram decided to field after losing the toss, Hardik said, “Yes, this is a special initiative to help cancer patients.”

It is interesting to note that GT is not the first IPL team to wear lavender jersey. In 2015, the Delhi Daredevils wore ‘lavender and red’ jerseys, led by former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, himself a cancer survivor. The move was in collaboration with Yuvraj’s non-profit organization YouWeCan Foundation, which works with cancer patients.

The choice of lavender, a color that symbolizes all types of cancer, serves as a powerful reminder of the many people affected by this devastating disease. By wearing lavender jerseys, the Titans aim to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention, emphasizing the important role that lifestyle changes can play in combating cancer.

Col. Arvinder Singh, COO, Titans, had earlier said, “Cancer causes millions of deaths worldwide and has a devastating impact on patients and their families.

We are glad to do our part in raising awareness about cancer, which is an effort to not only educate people about the importance of early detection but also to adopt a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of cancer. Also underlines the importance. Our team is committed to driving a positive change and contributing to the global fight against cancer.”

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya had said that the franchise wanted to express solidarity with cancer patients with this gesture. “Cancer is a battle fought by millions of people in India and across the world, and as a team, we feel responsible to raise awareness about this deadly disease. Wearing the lavender jersey is our way of showing solidarity with cancer patients, survivors and their families. We hope that our action will inspire others to take preventive measures and support those fighting this battle,” said Pandya.
