A case has been registered against seven people, one from Ahmedabad and the other from Gandhinagar, and two of them have been arrested, police said in a statement on Saturday.

Two months after an Indian national died while trying to cross the border wall in an attempt to enter the United States illegally from Mexico, the Gujarat police have arrested two agents for human trafficking.

A case has been registered against seven people, one from Ahmedabad and the other from Gandhinagar, and two of them have been arrested, police said in a statement on Saturday.

“These seven people tried to illegally send him, his wife Pooja and son Tanmay to America to extort money from Brijkumar Yadav and his family. They did not inform him of the risks involved in entering the US in this manner.”

The Yadavs were taken to Mumbai on November 11, 2022, flown to Istanbul and somehow transported to Mexico, the release said.

Gujarat police launched an investigation after Yadav died on December 21, 2022, while trying to enter the US by scaling a wall at the US-Mexico border, also known as the Trump Wall.

His wife and three-year-old son were seriously injured in the incident.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Yadav and his family lived in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district.

Reports in the American media said that all three family members fell from a great height. Yadav’s wife fell on the US side of the wall, while his son fell on the Mexican side.

A case of human trafficking was registered at the Kalol taluka police station following Yadav’s death.

In January 2022, four members of a family from Dingucha village in Kalol tehsil died while trying to enter the US illegally due to extreme cold at the US-Canada border.

In March 2022, US border officials arrested six youths from Gujarat after their boat capsized in the St. Regis River near the Canadian border. The authorities claimed that they were trying to enter the US illegally.
