Gujarat government to set up two Sainik Schools, six colleges

The Gujarat government on Tuesday announced that it would set up two new Sainik Schools and six colleges in the state. One Sainik School will be opened in Banas Dairy campus near Palanpur town in Banaskantha district, while another such school will be located in the premises of Dudhsagar Dairy in Mehsana city, Education Minister and government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani said after a cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar.

“The Center has already given its approval to open these Sainik Schools in Palanpur and Mehsana in North Gujarat. On the call of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, both the dairy cooperatives have come forward to partner in our endeavor to prepare the youth for the armed forces. He said that these schools would be affiliated to CBSE group. At present, there is only one Sainik School in Gujarat, which is located near Balachadi village in Jamnagar district.

The state cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also approved the establishment of six new government colleges. Vaghani said Limbayat would get a new science, commerce and arts college in Surat, Varachha in Surat and Jasdan city of Rajkot would get one science college each.

He said that Palitana in Bhavnagar and Bagsara town of Amreli district would also get new government colleges. Vaghani said that for the tribal population, the state government will start a new science college at Santrampur town in Mahisagar district, while existing colleges at Katchal in Surat, Dediapada in Narmada and Khergam in Navsari will get science stream facility.

The minister said that the cabinet also approved the introduction of science and commerce streams in the Government Arts College at Umarpara in Surat.
