Prayagraj: A 35 year old Government Railway Police (GRP) head constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself service weapon In the toilet of GRP Prayagraj Police Line under the limits of Khuldabad police station on Monday morning. He was posted in GRP Kanpur and came to Prayagraj on escort duty Ajmer-Sealdah Express Train.
No suicide note has been recovered from him. The reason behind the death of the deceased is not yet known. Police said that the body has been sent for postmortem.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9:40 am when some policemen of GRP Police Line heard two gunshots and ran towards the toilet. On reaching there, he saw that the head constable named Chintamani Yadav, a resident of Manda, Prayagraj, was lying in a pool of blood. They took him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Deputy SP (GRP) Amit Srivastava said, “The deceased head constable posted at GRP Kanpur had come to Prayagraj on Sunday as he was assigned escort duty in Ajmer-Sealdah Express train. He was to return to Kanpur on Monday on escort duty in the same train. He was living in barrack number two of GRP Prayagraj police line.
Police said Yadav had joined the police force in 2005 as a constable.
Reports said that the policemen of GRP Police Line were shocked to hear two gunshots and saw the head constable in critical condition. He arranged for a vehicle to take the seriously injured head constable to the hospital. It is being told that the bullet had hit the head of the deceased.
