Group Captain’s body will come to Bhopal today: On receiving the Shaurya Chakra, there was a plan to give a party in Indore this month; funeral tomorrow

Group Captain Varun Singh, who was injured in a helicopter crash of CDS Bipin Rawat on December 8 in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, died on Wednesday. Varun was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore for 7 days. Bhopal Collector Avinash Lavania told that the mortal remains of Group Captain will come to Bhopal at 2.30 pm on Thursday by an army plane. Tributes will be paid to him at Airport Road Sun City Colony. The last rites will be performed at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat at 11:00 am on Friday.

Family members from his home district Deoria (Uttar Pradesh) are also coming to Bhopal to attend the last rites. Group Captain’s in-laws are in Indore. Sanjay Singh, cousin of his wife Geetanjali, told that Varun used to come to Indore once or twice a year. In the joy of getting Shaurya Chakra this month, he was going to come to Indore to give a party.

Mother and father live in Bhopal
Shaheed Varun’s father and retired army colonel KP Singh lives in the Sun City Colony on Bhopal’s Airport Road. Varun also used to visit Bhopal frequently. However, none of Varun Singh’s family members are here yet and the house is locked.

Varun came to Bhopal for Diwali
Daljit Singh Gurudatta, the neighbor of Group Captain Varun Singh and President of Sun City Utsav Samiti Colony, Bhopal, told that Varun had just come home in Diwali. He was very friendly. He was very affectionate to the children of the colony. Whenever he came, he used to meet all the children. He encouraged them. Also, asking the children about their goals, then giving them career tips. Neighbor Anil Moolchandani told that he liked Bhopal city very much. Neighbor Mahendra Tyagi said that Varun’s father is his good friend. When Varun was admitted to the hospital, he had a talk with his father. He said that the son is fine now. We can’t believe that Varun is no more with us.

Varun Singh’s family shifted to Bhopal 20 years ago. His father retired colonel KP Singh and mother Uma Singh live in Sun City Colony. At the same time, Varun Singh lived in Wellington, Tamil Nadu with his wife and two children. His younger brother Tanuj is a lieutenant commander in the Navy. His posting is in Mumbai.

Came to Indore in 2008 with a procession
Varun Singh’s in-laws are in Indore. Varun tied the knot with Gitanjali of Indore on 20 January 2008. Geetanjali was doing BA from Ferguson College, Pune, when Varun met her. Then Varun and family lived in Bhopal.

Group Captain Varun Singh was the batchmate of Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman. Abhinandan Varthaman had driven out Pakistani planes that entered India’s border on 27 February 2019. Group Captain Varun Singh being posted in DSSC, his entire family lives in Tamil Nadu. Group Captain Varun Singh was the nephew of Congress leader and spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh.
