PM Modi’s visit to France: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday addressed a press meet ahead of wide-ranging talks at the Elysee Palace in Paris. The Prime Minister said that India and France are preparing a roadmap for the next 25 years with bold and ambitious goals. He also said that France is an important partner for ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. Both PM Modi and Macron discussed several areas of mutual cooperation to deepen the strategic ties between the two countries. In a statement after the Modi-Macron meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs said the unprecedented defense ties between India and France will continue.

To enable progress on the IMRH programme, a shareholder agreement has been concluded between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India and Safran Helicopter Engines, France, for engine development. The Ministry of External Affairs said that these ventures are in line with the spirit of trust that exists between India and France in joint development and sharing of critical components and technology building blocks based on the successful Indo-French experience in technology transfer.
  5. The Ministry of External Affairs said that India and France appreciate the success of the first Scorpene submarine construction program (P75-Kalvari), a model of Make in India and sharing of naval expertise between companies of the two countries.
  6. The Ministry of External Affairs said that both countries welcome the MoU between Mazagon Dockyard Limited and Naval Group for the construction of three additional submarines under the P75 programme.
  7. It added that India and France are ready to explore more ambitious projects to develop the Indian submarine fleet and its performance.

Other examples of this defense industrial partnership based on mutual trust include the contract between Safran Helicopter Engines and HAL for transfer of technology for forgings and castings for Shakti engines. It also reflects the French commitment to support technology transfer and Make in India.
  9. After meeting PM Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted, “Long live the French-Indian friendship!”
  10. Both PM Modi and Macron also met top CEOs in Paris to discuss ways to diversify business cooperation.
