GREATER NOIDA: Residents of Sector Eta 1 have been complaining of untended garbage for nearly four months. They said that 16 sweepers and two tractors have been appointed for the sector as per the waste disposal tender. However, only four to five sweepers and one tractor-trolley come to the sector.
These sweepers and tractors also clean only parts of the area, leaving nearly 80% of the sector with leftover garbage on roadsides. There are nearly 1,000 plots in Sector Eta 1 where at least 200 families live currently.
The sector also has 12 parks where horticulture work remains to be done as long grass and shrubs attract seasonal insects. Residents complain that with the ongoing monsoon, the lack of waste disposal is posing a health threat, with foul smell in the area.
“I have written to GNIDA, and apprised officials many times through calls about the dismal waste disposal system here. Not only untended garbage but also a lot of dirt and C&D waste is spread across the sector,” said Deepak Bhati, RWA president of Sector Eta 1.
While Bhati maintained that the contractor is not working properly, he added that not enough manpower is deployed for cleaning the sector. “Since the new contractor got the job a few months ago, sweeping has not been done in more than half the sector,” said Bhati.
“Also, the contractor is not deploying two vehicles sanctioned to him to collect the garbage. It’s been nearly four months since garbage collection has been abysmal, with the situation getting worse due to the monsoon showers. Foul smell and unhygienic conditions pose health hazards,” said Bhati.
When contacted, Manoj Kumar, JE health, GNIDA, said that a meeting was held with the sector’s RWA about two-three days ago. The contractor was also apprised of the complaints. “The contractor intimated that some staff from his team had been unwell. He promised to pick up the garbage and conduct regular sweeping work with full strength from next week.
I will also personally check whether work is done properly,” said Kumar
