According to Variety, singer and rapper Drake has withdrawn his Grammy nomination, according to a Recording Academy spokesperson. He was nominated in two categories – Best Rap Album for Certified Boyfriend Boy and Best Rap Performance for Way 2 Sexy. According to sources cited by the publication, Drake and his management made the choice and the Recording Academy granted their request. However, the reason for doing so remains unknown.

The rapper has previously won four Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Meanwhile, Drake will not be replaced and voting will continue with only four members.

However, Drake has had a tense history with the Grammy Awards. Last year, when The Weeknd was shut down during nominations by the Recording Academy, the rapper took a stand urging the music community to “start something new” in place of the Grammy Awards. In a surprising surprise, The Weeknd was completely overlooked at the 63rd Grammy Awards nominations, despite “After Hours” being the best-selling album of that year.

Sharing a statement on his Instagram Stories, Drake said it’s time for musicians to move on from the Grammys.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked each year by the disconnect between influential music and these awards, and simply acknowledge that what was once the highest form of recognition has been passed on to artists who now exist and later Upcoming cast doesn’t matter. “It’s like a relative you keep hoping to fix but they can’t change their ways,” Drake wrote.
