Govt taking important steps to boost startup ecosystem: Piyush Goyal – Times of India

New Delhi: Government is taking important steps like resolving the angel tax issue, simplification of tax procedures and self-certification. startup ecosystem Minister of Commerce and Industry of the country Piyush Goyal Said on Friday.
He also said that there are huge opportunities for startups in Tier 2 and 3 cities and sectors like advertising, marketing, professional services, fitness and wellness, gaming and sports and audio-video services.
Startups should leverage modern technologies for local and global markets, he said while speaking at the launch of NASSCOM’s Annual Technology Startups Report.
“We are trying to take important steps to boost the startup ecosystem… we have Budget Coming soon and we are all eagerly waiting to see and hear what is done with some of the requests (recommendations)…,” Goyal said.
He said the government is focusing on reducing the compliance burden to promote ease of doing business.
More than 26,500 compliances have either been simplified, digitized or completely removed from the statute and “we have been able to reduce about 770 crimes,” he said.
Talking about Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) he said that this platform will enable interoperability between e-commerce companies and provide an opportunity to small and big players to reach out to the common man.
“The next UPI moment could be ONDC, which will help bring new age technology to the common man at an affordable cost and also give new opportunities to our startups to grow in India,” the minister said.
