Governments not ‘protecting’ Hindutva under BJP-led government at Center: Yashwant Sinha

Opposition candidate for next month’s presidential election Yashwant Sinha on Thursday alleged that any government which believes in Constitution and secularism and does not believe in Hindutva is not safe in this country. Addressing a meeting of the DMK and its allies, Sinha said they (BJP) have found a scapegoat to capture the “high chair” of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Sinha said, “But what does it show? It shows that it is the government of the ruling party and the government at the Centre. India There is absolutely no respect for the federal structure of our constitution.” He alleged that they were violating the convention after convention of the constitution. “I was listening to the speech of the Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Maharashtra and he kept talking were doing Hindutva and he was saying that we toppled this government because it did not believe in Hindutva. It means any government which believes in constitution, which does not believe in Hindutva but believes in secularism, is not safe in this country.”

“I agree to contest the presidential election, it is a ‘sustained struggle’ against the alleged excesses of the central government and the BJP that runs it. Till 2014, I was heading the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance,” Sinha said. Said and said that it was in line with the convention that a person from the opposition should conduct it. He said, “Now, a ruling party member heads that committee. It is another thing that he happens to be my son (Jayant Sinha). But I have no hesitation in saying that it is a wrong practice. ” Sinha assured that if elected to the office of the President, he would strictly abide by the Constitution and its provisions. Upon his arrival at the DMK headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam’, Sinha was received and escorted by Stalin to the party office and presided over a meeting of his party and its allies, which extended their support to the former Union minister.

While Stalin described Sinha as an “eminent person”, MDMK chief and Rajya Sabha member Vaiko said, “We are all with you”. Leaders of the DMK’s coalition parties, including Selvaperunthagai of the Congress Party (Leader of the Legislature Party), assured Sinha whole-hearted support. Representatives of Left parties and Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi also promised support to Sinha.
