The central government has taken a big decision regarding the installation of CNG kits in vehicles. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a new draft notification regarding the installation of CNG kits in vehicles. The new notification states that soon car owners will be able to install CNG kits in their BS6 petrol vehicles, which will reduce their fuel cost by 40 to 50 percent. In this way, the government has allowed amendments for retro fitment for CNG and LPG kits. After this modification, CNG or LPG kits can be installed in BS6 diesel and petrol engines weighing less than 3.5 tonnes.
Only BS4 vehicles are allowed
The Ministry of Road Transport has recently issued a draft notification for emission and other parameters regarding retrofit. Officials associated with the ministry say that this demand was being felt for some time, as these days only BS-VI compliant vehicles are being sold across the country. At the same time, CNG retrofitment is allowed only in vehicles that meet BS-IV emission norms. According to the ministry, CNG is an environment friendly fuel and it emits less carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and fumes than petrol and diesel engines.
Only 1500 cc vehicles allowed
Experts say that this move of the government will give relief to those people who are spending more money on petrol till now. Apart from this, CNG is a green fuel, which is environment friendly. The government has proposed to install CNG retrofitment kits in vehicles with 1500 cc engine capacity, which will enable most cars and some SUVs to be fitted with CNG kits. At the same time, it is mandatory to have CNG in the commercial vehicles running in Delhi and its surrounding areas, in view of which this step was needed.
