Talha Saeed, son of 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, was on Friday labeled a terrorist by the Union Home Ministry under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). In a gazette notification shared by the Union ministry, the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief’s son had said he was involved in terror-related activities.
“The Central Government is of the view that Hafiz Talha Saeed is involved in terrorism and Hafiz Talha Saeed should be notified as a terrorist under the said Act… Talha Saeed India and Indian interests in Lashkar recruitment, money collection , has been actively involved in planning and carrying out attacks. in Afghanistan,” the notification said. It further added that Hafiz Saeed’s son visited various Lashkar centers across Pakistan and in his speeches. Promoted Jihad against Indian interests in India, Israel, the United States and other Western countries.
According to a report in news agency Indian Express, Talha Saeed serves as the second-in-command of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The 47-year-old terrorist is also responsible for managing Lashkar’s finances. He is also the head of the clerical wing of the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Earlier in 2019, News18 reported that Talha Saeed escaped an assassination attempt when a bomb exploded inside a refrigerator shop in Lahore. Sayeed was addressing a rally not far from that place. Seven Lashkar supporters were injured and one supporter died.
According to Talha Saeed, 2019 report, the discontent in Lashkar-e-Taiba was faced due to father-son monopoly in the terrorist organization. The senior leadership was unhappy with Hafiz handing over the main responsibility to Talha.
The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, was amended in August 2019 to designate individuals as terrorists. Following the amendment, the Indian government named Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)’s Masood Azhar and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim as terrorists.
