A big meeting is going on at Home Minister Amit Shah’s house on Coal Crisis. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Energy Minister RK Singh and Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi are present in this meeting. Recently, after the power crisis, the Chief Ministers of many states had raised the issue of coal crisis.

Power crisis in 12 states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh
According to All India Electricity Engineers Federation (AIPEF), 12 states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are facing power crisis. AIPEF spokesperson VK Gupta says that the demand for electricity increases during the summer days. In such a situation, more coal is needed to increase electricity production.

Peak power supply set a record in summer
Peak power supply reached record levels thrice this week amid scorching heat across the country. Peak power supply touched a record 201.65GW on Tuesday. It then set a new record of 204.65 GW on Thursday and reached an all-time high of 207.11GW on Friday. It was 200.65GW on Wednesday and 199.34 GW on Monday. The peak power supply on July 7 last year was 200.53 GW.

70% coal usage in electricity generation in the country
India generates about 200 GW of electricity, or about 70%, from coal-fired plants. There are 150 coal-fired power plants in the country. Recently, the railways had canceled 670 trips of trains to give way to coal-carrying trains to power plants when the power crisis deepened.
