Government extends deadline for filing income tax returns till March 15

New Delhi: The Central government on Tuesday extended the deadline for filing Income Tax (IT) returns for assessment year 2021-22 (AY21-22) till March 15, 2022, said a notification by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

“In the difficulties reported by taxpayers/stakeholders due to COVID and e-filing of audit report for AY 2021-22 under the IT Act, 1961, CBDT has extended due dates for filing of audit report and ITR for AY 21-22. has been carried forward. ,” the Income Tax Department said in a tweet.

The deadline for filing IT returns has been extended for some time. As per the notification of the Department of Revenue, the first deadline for filing IT returns was September 30, 2021. Later, the dates were revised due to the COVID-19 pandemic and some technical reasons.

Income tax payers are urging to extend the deadline for filing IT returns, as most of them faced a technical glitch in the IT website and COVID also delayed the entire process.
