Union Minister Sadananda Gowda on Monday said the government has allocated an additional 2,12,540 vials of amphotericin-B to states, union territories (UTs) and central institutions. Amphotericin-B is used to treat mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, which damages the nose, eyes, sinuses, and sometimes the brain.
Gowda tweeted, “An additional 2,12,540 vials of Liposomal AmphotericinB have been allocated today to all States/UTs and Central Institutions. Around 10 lakh vials have been allocated across the country so far.” Doctors in India are documenting an alarming number of cases of mucormycosis among patients with Covid-19 and those who have recently recovered.
