Google often faces new rivals but none of them manage to compete

The company has faced many challenges to keep up with and rival Google Search.

Neeva, which challenged the Google search engine, is ceasing operations as founders Sridhar Ramaswamy and Vivek Raghunathan admitted they faced significant challenges in attracting new users.

The founders wrote in a blog post that they started Neeva with a mission to bring discovery back to their users.

“After working on search and search ads for over a decade, we sincerely believed there was room for a model of search that puts user and not advertiser interests first – a personal, ad-free experience , added.

But throughout this journey, “we’ve found that it’s one thing to build a search engine, and an entirely different thing to convince regular users of the need to switch to a better alternative”.

These headwinds, combined with the varied economic climate, have made it clear that there is no longer a way to build a sustainable business in consumer search.

“As a result, over the next few weeks, we will be discontinuing neeva.com and our consumer search product, and will be shifting to a new area of focus,” the founders said.

Founded in 2019, Neeva launched an ad-free, subscription-only search engine in the US two years ago, before adding a free tier. Neeva had reached over 600,000 users.

However, according to the founders, “acquiring users has been really difficult”, from the unnecessary friction required to change default search settings, to the challenges in helping people understand the difference between search engines and browsers. .

If you have a paid subscription to Niva Premium, you will receive a refund for the unused portion of your subscription. “Over the past year, we have seen a clear, pressing need to access the LLM effectively, affordably, safely and responsibly,” the founders said.

They are actively exploring “how we can apply our research and LLM expertise in these settings, and we will provide an update on our work and our team’s future over the next few weeks”.
