Google Messages may soon have a new way to highlight unread chats – Times of India

The tech giant is reportedly working on a new way to expose unread messages. according to a report of Android Central, Google Messages is testing to add a blue dot to the right of the timestamp of an unread message. The latest change was discovered by a leakster in the latest beta version v10.6.240 of the Google Messages app.
The new feature will be similar to the app’s notification badge that allows Android users to easily see which apps have new notifications that are yet to be read. These badges are also available on Apple iPhones. iOSOn the other hand, also shows unread counts. Like the notification badge feature is already available on the messaging app WhatsApp With Gmail and Apple Mail.
According to the report, this change is part of a server-side update and is currently available only for a limited number of users. The new method will make unread messages more noticeable. While the existing feature of making unread text bold is not bad either, it is possible for some users to leave unread messages. The new feature will be a welcome addition to Google Messages.
