Google has unveiled a new ‘Timeline’ feature on Maps, designed to assist users in recalling visited places. This upcoming feature, accessible on all devices through the Timeline.
According to Google, “users will soon be able to see their recent activity at particular places and delete their location history.”
In a blog posted by Google on Tuesday, Google stated, “If you’re getting a new phone or are worried about losing your existing one, you can always choose to back up your data to the Cloud so it doesn’t get lost. We’ll automatically encrypt your backed-up data so no one can read it, including Google.”

Google has stated that these changes will eventually roll out through the next year (2024) on Android and iOS, and users will receive a notification when this update will be rolled out to the user, Google stated.
“When you first turn on Location History, the auto-delete control will be set for three months by default, which means any data older than that will be automatically erased.” google stated.
Individuals keen on preserving memories on their Timeline for an extended duration can opt to prolong the period or disable the auto-delete controls entirely.
Google states that the blue dot, indicating a user’s location on Google Maps, provides convenient access to essential location controls. Users can simply tap it to check if Location History or Timeline settings are enabled and if Maps has been granted access to the device’s location.
